SOLVED!

Hey guys...

Finally after months of waiting... we got it!

We finally understand why the priests doesn't have money to turn the air conditioner on! They have installed new cameras! yes, now they control every floor with two cameras: one in front of the elevator and one in the bottom of the corridor.

Fantastic no? You pay money to live here, and instead of using this money in order to make the place more confortable ( like with air conditioning ) they use this money to control you.

Really good place here!

Monastery

Hey guys! I think some of you have been visiting this blog, but there is no comment yet. If you want ask something about the place you will live, leave a question here! ;)

Today I got some news. By now it isn't allowed to bring someone from outside to Rainerum. It means...
- If you want to study together with your friends in Rainerum... They cannot come in!
- If you want to cook with your friends... They cannot come in!
- If you want to show your friends your room, your place... They cannot come in!

Of course this kind of rule sound stupid! But of course some friends of you can come in! It's enough that you ask permission to the Dons before!

And now, if you are a foreign student, if you want to make friends in Bozen, if you want to have a normal life here... forget it!

Floor by floor

Hey guys!

Now let's explain how each floor of Rainerum is divided!

Floor -1: There are a gym with a few machines, some bathrooms, a play room (with table tennis, table soccer and TV), and the laundry. We need a special chapter just for the laundry!

The gym at -1 floor.

Floor 0: There are Don Paolo's Office, the Blue Room (where meetings take place) with a TV and DVD player, the mail boxes and some rooms. In the zero floor lies the room of Don Gregorio either. And it's strategically in front of the elevator and the stairs. If he is with his door open, he can check who enters, who leaves. There are some rooms also for students and professors of the university. There is no kitchen here: you need to use the one of the first floor.

Floor 1: The girls' floor. There is a central kitchen (the "mensa", in Italian), bathrooms and lots of single rooms. There are 3 kinds of apartments here:
  • Double single rooms: composed by two single rooms (with a bed, a desk and and a wardrobe), one small kitchen and one bathroom.
  • Single rooms: They are four, lying in the inner part of the building. They are a room with a bathroom. But no kitchen! These people have to use the central kitchen.
  • Triple single rooms: They are two, one in each extreme part of the floor. They have three single rooms, a small kitchen and a bathroom.
There is also a study room with a balcony, close to the central kitchen.

A double (single) room. A big one.

Floor 2: The boys' floor. It's the same as the first floor, but it smells a bit!

Floor 3: It's a mixed floor. Don't think boys and girls share rooms here! It's always a couple of the same sex sharing the common parts of the apartment. In this floor there are some different rooms:
  • Double shared rooms: There are just some rooms like this in the third floor. They pay less because the couple have to share the same room (and there is no privacy while sleeping!). These rooms have two floors: in the first one lies a bathroom, the small kitchen, the two desks (one for each) side by side, and the stairs. Going upstairs there are the beds and wardrobe.
I hope it helps you! Welcome to Rainerum!

Sommer Nachricht

Hi everybody... there is a great summer news here in Rainerum...

Normally when you enter in Rainerum, don Paolo welcomes you and shows you the rooms, the facilities and the common spaces in Rainerum.
Of course he doesn't forget to remind that there is a kind of air conditioning system that keeps the temperature something like 5-6 degree lower than outside. That's sounds good, isn't it?
What don Paolo forget is to say that they are not going to turn the system on...

And here is the news: the air conditioning system will not be activated this summer since as the directions says... there are no money!!! the fact is that last week there was something like 41-42° C (106-107° F), and there was no wind at all! In the rooms was almost impossible to breath.
Let's everybody hope that they will find the money for winter, because if they cannot even turn the heater on we will freeze!

bye ;)

get into Rainerum

Ok... Till now we did not really explain what Rainerum is, so... let's do it now! Rainerum college is a kind of college near the university and made by the rich province of Bolzano.

For some reasons they decide to renew and old building, that is part of the Salesian Institute of Bolzano: this means that we have to share the space with the people that live in the high school college, with a medium school, with the students of the high school and, last but not least, with a lot of priests that here live, teach and manage the whole place. Included our part.

Our part, our college, is managed by two salesian priests called Don Paolo and Don Gregorio.

Student life here is much funnier than a lot of other places, because the university has chosen this college to house all the exchange students from different part of Europe and the World.
So here there are a lot of people from all the 5 continents.
There are around 86 places for living here in 4 floors. Each floor has a kitchen, a study room, a common loo and a balcony.

Moreover Don Paolo and Don Gregorio take care of our lives, trying for instance to avoid that we get drunked, we have too much sex or that we go around too undressed.
For example there is a nice cam at the entrance that records all the movements of the people that go out or come back from and to Rainerum.
Our 2 fantastic managers every morning get up very early (probably around 6 a.m.) and check that noone have brought guests inside after 23:00 p.m. the previous night.

Welcome to Rainerum!

Hi people!

Welcome to Rainerum! But... what is Rainerum? According to the dons that manage it, it's not a hostel, it's not a dormitory, it's not a restaurant, it's not an apartment... So... what the fcuk is that?! LOL

OK... We will let you discover! :P

We made this blog to tell you guys our experience living in Bolzano, in Rainerum. We are going to give you tips about South Tirol (Alto Adige, Sudtirol), about Italy, about this place to live and study called Rainerum. (OK Let's say it's a dorm!)

We also will try to collect information about the dorms, the students, the services, parties...! Enjoy Bolzano!

Here a map to help you finding out where it lies, where is the Free University of Bolzano (www.unibz.it) and the other dorms.

Good Luck!
And welcome to Bolzano!
